Con-Cret Creatine Review

Creatine Monohydrate Vs Creatine HCl

If you’re considering buying Promera Con-Cret, it's likely because you want creatine HCl as opposed to creatine monohydrate. I want to explain the differences and why you might pay 2-3x as much for a similar product.

Creatine Monohydrate is the most common creatine you’ll find on shelves. It’s also been studied to death and it’s pretty difficult for anyone to argue that it’s not extremely effective.

When I say extremely I don’t mean it’ll lift weights for you, or eat a clean diet for you. You still need to do the work, creatine will only improve upon the work you’re already doing.

Creatine monohydrate has also been proven to be safe. Unlike a number of supplements which have yet to go through extensive enough testing, creatine has been put to the test and has passed with flying colors.

I’m skeptical of many supplements on the market, but creatine monohydrate is not one of them. It is the gold standard.

With all of that being said, creatine monohydrate increases water retention (both within and outside of cells).

Creatine Water Retention Graph
This chart is from this study. It discusses how water retention occurs both intercellular and extracellular.

This water retention can cause some lifters stomach discomfort. I know skeptics will say this is a myth but there is far too much anecdotal evidence for this to be a myth.

Well you’re taking too much”. No I’m actually taking less than the guidelines recommend. “It must be your diet”. Right because I haven’t already thought of that and I haven’t stopped taking creatine and suddenly my stomach pain disappears.

Admittedly my stomach is junk, I’m brutally lactose intolerant and the minute I stray from a relatively clean diet my stomach lets me know. But from where I stand this is too common of a problem to be a coincidence.

This is the reason I decided to try creatine HCl.

Creatine HCl is creatine that has been bonded to hydrochloride. The chemistry is pretty simple, adding HCl lowers the pH and increases the solubility.

As a result it mixes better, which means it won’t sit in your intestines and wreck havoc. There are some who think you can take lower doses of HCl than monohydrate for similar results. It should be noted this has yet to be proven.

Personally, I’m not convinced HCl outperforms monohydrate. Hypothetically, even if it did, would it perform better in terms of value?

Creatine HCl is more expensive than monohydrate and so while some may claim it outperforms creatine monohydrate I wonder if what they really mean is if you take equal serving sizes HCl will outperform monohydrate.

This is all well and fine, but at the end of the day I care very little about serving sizes assuming it doesn’t bother my stomach. I care about dollar value.

Ultimately, the main reason I’d consider changing from monohydrate to a product like Promera Con-Cret Creatine is if monohydrate upsets your stomach.

Con-Cret Creatine Review

Now that you’ve got a little bit of information regarding creatine monohydrate versus hcl let’s get back to the product.

It comes in seven flavors, one of which is “unflavored” which I personally prefer. When given a choice, I’ll take a cleaner, lousy tasting product every time. But I know I’m in the minority here, if you’re into flavors here are some of the other flavors:

“Tastes like a liquid snow cone, couldn't ask for anything better. 10/10”

“I love the Blue Raspberry flavor”

“The taste is on point… It is a sweet blue raspberry”

I try to balance these reviews with those who claim the product tastes like old socks, but honestly I didn’t find a single reviewer who didn’t like the taste.

Fruit – Punch

“My favorite flavors from top (to bottom) pineapple and fruit punch, lemon lime, and then blue raspberry.”

Lemon – Lime

If you're a fan of Sprite you're going to like the Lemon - Lime flavour.

"I have had the opportunity to try the pineapple and the lemon lime and both were awesome"

Snake Fruit

The snake fruit is a little bit sour but not over the top. It's a pretty unique flavour, although that's not always a good thing!

"I have had the opportunity to try the pineapple and the lemon lime and both were awesome"

"Its delicious flavor, i chose pineapple flavor"

"The flavor is absolutely phenomenal"

The Watermelon's flavor taste is smooth, but not overly sweet. It's not as sweet as some of the other flavours (I'm looking at you Pineapple).

Price Per Serving:

As far as creatine HCl goes it’s on the far end of the spectrum, but it’s still comparable to most other products on the market.

As far as creatine goes, it’s really expensive.

That being said it’s still an affordable product, spending $10 per month on a supplement is pretty reasonable. Odds are, if you buy supplements you’ve purchased a lot of other products that are far less effective that cost you a lot more.

Loading or Cycling Creatine

One of the proclaimed benefits of Con-Cret creatine is you don’t need to load or cycle. Which is 100% hype. Regardless of the type of creatine you’re taking you shouldn’t need to load or cycle. It’s been proven that it’s less effective than just consistently using the product day after day.

I find it somewhat surprising that this myth ever emerged. It’s in the supplement companies best interest to have you continually using their product so you have to purchase it more frequently. Luckily for them researchers have done them a huge solid and de-bunked this myth.

Bloating, GI Discomfort and Cramping

No bloating or cramping. We spoke at great lengths as to why creatine HCl might make a lot of sense. Water retention and bloating are a very common side effect of taking creatine monohydrate. The bond with HCl helps to eliminate this.

This is a result of improved solubility. Creatine HCl reportedly is 40x more solube than creatine monohydrate. That’s a pretty massive jiump and it should help the product move through your system.

Increase Strength, Endurance and Recovery

It’s well known that creatine can provide weight lifters and athletes significant benefits. I’m not sure it makes a lot of sense for the guy who hits the gym once a week to supplement with creatine but if you’re an athlete or are hitting the gym hard there is no question creatine can provide a huge leg up.

A huge percentage of creatine users are amateur athletes at the high school and collegiate levels.

Con-Crete Creatine Conclusion

Overall this is a damn fine product. Most of the flavors are pretty good and it my stomach does a lot better on this than traditional creatine. It gets four and a half stars out of five from us.
